Growing a business in 2016 is not the easiest thing in the world, given the complexities of the marketplace, economy, competition levels, and consumer savviness. You’ve got to be good. Real good. At growing businesses to make it happen.
There are two very specific measurable areas, however, that a small business could emphasize early focus on to get a great jump start on what it takes to not just survive, but to thrive in their local areas, and maybe even nationally or globally if they scale correctly.
Growth Catapult #1 — SEO.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the practice of doing all the right things with your website and online to get Google to notice you, and correlate relevancy and authority with your site to what you do. So, for example, if you are a pet sitter in Raleigh, NC, then if someone searches for “pet sitter raleigh nc”, you would obviously want to be the top business in the #1 spot on Google, page 1. However, only one business gets that spot. And they get approximately 40-50% of all of the traffic – the people looking for that service by typing in that keyword on Google. So, what does it take? How could you be sitting in prime position #1, so that visitors are coming to your website, and hopefully taking action with you, because, well, you are amazing and are a darn good petter sitter in Raleigh. Hiring a professional SEO firm is ideal if you have the budget. Do that if you can. Otherwise, you’re going to have to spend a ton of time, resources, energy, even money to self-train and get yourself ramped up and ready to do SEO on your website for your business.
Growth Catapult #2 — Facebook.
Facebook is conquering the world. Yes, they own so much data, traffic, profiles, links, images, videos, just everything. They are where everyone goes now for news, what’s happening in the world, in their world with family and friends, and to connect with groups of like minded people who share interests. It makes sense then, if this is where everything is happening, and where everyone is going on a daily basis, that you need to get your business on Facebook, in a big way. Facebook ads are absolutely killer, because you can specifically target a demographic audience by location, interests, sex, income bracket, pretty much anything. It enables you to get so niche specific with your advertising which is what makes it so effective. You can build your tribe slowly on a small income or quickly with a huge income. And it is very scalable in a lot of ways. So again, how do you make Facebook ads an effective reality for your business? Hire an amazing internet marketing agency. For real. Don’t even try to shortcut and DIY this. You need to make sure you are not just wasting your budget without knowing what you are doing with Facebook advertising.
